Aris Koukos - Bouzouki Tutor

At a very young age, Aris studied Greek folk music at the music school of Stathis Milanos in Volos, learning bouzouki, guitar, and baglamas.

Alongside his performing career, he has been teaching bouzouki at various music schools and conservatories for the past thirty years.

Between 2003 and 2006 Aris was a member of the Mikis Theodorakis Folk Orchestra, when he toured internationally in many countries, including Australia. He later collaborated with many leading Greek artists, including Giorgos Dalaras, Stamatis Kraounakis, Giannis Parios, Dimitris Mitropanos, Glykeria, Dimitra Galani, Manolis Mitsias, Manolis Lidakis, and many others. He has also performed with the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra and the State Orchestra of Thessaloniki.

In 2012, as a member of the musical group Contra Tempo, he recorded a collection of songs by Giorgos Zampetas titled “Songs from the Garden of Giorgos Zampetas.” In 2016 he released his first album as a composer titled “Me tin Kardia sti Thalassa” (With the Heart at Sea), featuring singers Ioulia Karapataki, Sofia Papazoglou, and others.

In 2023 he released a series of instrumental bouzouki pieces titled “Ten Small Journeys with One Ticket.” Since 2025, he has once again been a member of the Mikis Theodorakis Folk Orchestra.

Alongside his performing career, Aris has devoted much of his life to teaching the bouzouki and passing on the tradition of Greek folk music to new generations of musicians. At Echo Studios we are proud to have Aris in our World Music teaching team.
